The Adam | Chemistry Icon

Gracing the header of Adam's chemistry websites, to the right of the AS logo, is a unique figure that represents Adam | Chemistry. Read on to learn about why Adam chose this icon.

One of the molecular compounds with the formula C10H16 is called adamantane. A strong molecule nearly free of stress, adamantane is composed of three cyclohexane rings that are blended into one. The configuration of the carbons in adamantane is similar to the structure of diamond. Adamantane was discovered in petroleum in 1933.

The skeletal formula of adamantane was chosen to represent Adam | Chemistry mainly because the word adamantane contains the name Adam. Adam hopes that chemistry will be crystal-clear to all those who study it with him (in view of adamantane's crystal structure) and that their experience with chemistry will be stress-free, like the stable structure of adamantane.
